Bob with his lovely wife, Sheila, and the fruit of their labor: David (& Lindsey), Carol (& Ash), Dan (& Sam), Jon (& family), Christy, Stephen (& Kristina), & adorable grandchildren: Karalyn, Nathan, Melody

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Bob Tice began building his first guitar while he was in high school. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Delaware, majoring in electrical engineering. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, specializing in classical guitar performance. But rather than launching a career as a performer, he decided to pursue a life-long interest in building, repairing and restoring stringed instruments. His hard work, intense study, and skilled craftsmanship coupled with his knowledge of music and technical ability enabled him to open a lutherie shop in Sciota, PA in 1983. He now employs his daughter Carol and long-time family friend Jon, who enjoy learning the trade under his mentorship. Bob’s expertise has also been sought after by countless professional and amateur musicians throughout the region.

While the bulk of his business is repair work—guitars, violins, cellos, violas, banjos, mandolins, dulcimers, basses, and pianos, to mention a few—he also buys, sells, restores and rents new and used instruments and accessories. Says one of Bob’s customers, “He is very smart and knowledgeable; but what I appreciate most is that he is always considerate and shows an interest in you. Whether you are a young aspiring musician or a world-famous celebrity, he is always kind and responds with your best interests in mind.”

Here's what our customers say

"Robert is a very friendly and nice Gentleman. I had dropped my Les Paul to have a full setup done and it plays better that it played before. I couldn't believe it. Have my acoustic guitar setup done here as well. Definitely will come again. Give him a try, you won't be disappointed."

- Ab A.

"SUPER work on my WASHBURN (Nuno Bettencourt) guitar! You really gave it new life! I can't thank you enough. Expect that I'll likely be coming back around within the coming months with another similar model guitar for setup (and anything else you think it might need). You are truly a master craftsman, on top of being a real gentleman. Thank you and may God bless you and your family!"

- Jamie Z.

"Thank you for the work on my guitars. The Guild is amazing! I can't put it down. It is a pleasure to hold and play. Thank you again I'll see you soon with another guitar that needs adjusting. Also it was a pleasure to meet and talk with Jon. Very nice experience dealing with you guys."

- Mark S.

"My 20 year old Takamine was given some much needed attention after 13 years at a summertime pool bar gig every Friday. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the set up. Very excellent and it was a pleasure dealing with Carol and Bob."
